Well, if this guy is a British citizen, then his problem is British, i.e.,if he wanted to commit public suicide by not taking food for 24 days, the British government should have taken him to a hospital by force and fed him through tubes. If anyone looks into British law, one might find that committing suicide and trying to commit suicide is a criminal offense. If anyone remember an MP called Sands, who tried this stunt died in British prisons few years ago, so this guy and his LTTE backers knew that he would be sacrificed anyway. Its a shame that British Police did not take him by force to a hospital and watched this guy trying to die! Interestingly, how can a human being live without food and water for 24 days? Anyway, if this guy is a British citizen, then the problem is British, not Sri Lankan. Would you allow any Al Queda supporter to do this stunt requesting US and UK not to kill Iraqis and Afghans?

Tamil is even the official language when even India with 70 million Tamils in Tanil Nadu has not offered this to the Tamils . The SL flag represents the minorities in a green strip .56 % of Tamils live among the Sinhalese very happily . This bogus group are too smart for the gullible and naive . Most of the problems they quote are also faced by the Sinhalese as Sri Lanks is only a developing country . They seem to think that only they have grievances or aspirations and no one else . The Brish Parliamentarians
like Joan Ryan , Susan Krmaer, Siobhian Macdonald ,Keith Vaz , Virendra Sharma , Simon HUghes Andrew Love , have fallen for them big time .It is disgraceful how they have sacrifced their time and money for them ,in return for votes . i live in Sri Lanka and even if the laws are changed majority of Tamils will want a separate country, thus the conflict will continue for another 30 years... but the irony here is 30 years ago Tamils were the second largest minority in Sri Lanka and at present its the third and hopefully after another 30 years of conflict Tamils will be the fourth largest at which time the point of having a Tamil struggle will be null and void.

There is so much venom, racism and bigotry in the comments coming from Sri Lanka and Sinhala people abroad. You have no compassion. I know you will respond to that by saying LTTE killed people etc. There have been 7000 people dead and 14000 injured. Tamil people had to take up arms, due to the supermacist policies of the majority community in Sri Lanka.

This young man wanted ceasefire in Sri Lanka, he wanted a just peace for the people there and you mock him.

People are deluded if they think eradicating the LTTE will bring peace in Sri Lanka. The communities are so much divided, far apart than before. Not a single Sinhala person has said, "OK we consider the tigers terrorists but lets be magnanemous, lets save the innocent tamils." It is this policy of ruthless pursuit that is driving Sri Lanka apart. Ask private any tamil living in Sri Lanka whether they are happy there, the answer will be a resounding NO!

We tamils have real discrimination in Sri Lanka and until that is sorted out, there will be no peace.

Srilankan goverment is the only goverment in the world killing its own citizens by bombing a so called safe zone. Already in 3 months 20,000 casulties. This is accoding to UN, but the real figure is much more since UN is under huge pressure not to reveal the casulties. Well, personally I hope this young man had the time to reflect on the consequences of following the terrorist path to put right grievances. I think the public demonstrations by the Tamil diaspora may have had a result that the Tamil Tigers didn't want: many British people & 2nd generation Tamils have started looking into this issue and are coming up with very strong condemnations of the Tigers.
The Tamil people of Sri Lanka may well have legitimate grievances about discrimination, etc, but the methods chosen by the LTTE (Tamil Tigers) to put that right are utterly repugnant, especially to a nation like the British who had to fight a war against another country taken over by fanatical racists (the Nazis in Germany).
What the Tamil people deperately need is a new articulate leadership that will follow moderate democratic policies. Unfortunately there aren't many such people left amongst the Tamils at this time because most were murdered during the LTTE & Mr Prabhakaran's bloodthirsty rise to power. And most of those that escaped or survived have been too terrified to speak out.
Let's hope we now start to see some moderate Tamils coming forward as leaders, & MPs with many Tamils living in their constituencies (like Simon Hughes) should be encouraging them to do so.

So the statement of "UK Government is becoming stronger in its position on Sri Lanka" will also follow a result like such. Does anybody could guess the shape of "remaining sentence" after Sri Lankan Army liberalize the LTTE hiding area (No Fire Zone) without any type of ceasefire?

Well he survived because he was being supervised by about ten doctors. So if this guy vowed to fast unto death why didn’t he? What a Joke. Not a single Tamil who has left SL will die. Only the poor innocent Tamils will die. They should come to Wellawatta and Bambalapitiya in Colombo and see whether there is really any discrimination. If there is really discrimination how come there are so many top Tamil Doctors, Lawyers and Engineers who were given free education by the state. They are just so ungrateful. Since David Miliband got the taste of Sri Lankan government’s terror on Tamils. We all hope the UK would do all it can to stop this genocide taking place. Suspend Sri Lanka from common wealth; this would be the 1st step to prevent the mass murder happening in Sri Lanka by its forces.

British Government is doing its fare share of its obligation towards this conflict .Despite this, the UN Security Council still is swayed by nations who do not practice democracy or free speech in their own countries(China, Russia) and don’t care about innocent children dying in cold blood as a result of the arms those nations themselves sell to the warring parties. The permanent members of the Security Council have a duty to uphold the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and protect innocent people, particularly those who do not have anyone to look after them.

The UN should not support either side in the current conflict in Sri Lanka, but both sides should be told in no uncertain terms that enough is enough, stop the killing and resume negotiations to reach an agreement that supersedes the one reached with the help of Norway. A political solution that allows Singhalese and Tamils to live peacefully side by side, as they did for centuries, is only achievable with the co-operation of the UN Security Council.

Finally, we thank you for your contribution toward bring the story of this bloody conflict to the world, and give a voice to the unheard people who are dying daily in the hundreds.

He Wowed to go on hunger strike until Sri Lanka holds the war and return to a cease fire. Sri Lankan war is still alive.. and more to the point, so is he. In my eyes all he achieved was a free trip to an exotic country for David Miliband and his entourage. Why not pay the same attention to Zimbabwe which was also an ex colony? Then again no one blocking the roads in London for that..Time wasters..
