Perfect liar and life-long bully

1 May 2009

Baby P's Mother

An inveterate liar and lazy, disinterested mother who by the age of 28 has become a symbol of broken Britain. She co-habited at 17, married, tired of her husband, dumped him, secretly moved in the boyfriend and all the time lived off benefits.

Her father said she did little housework or childcare and just lay on the sofa smoking, complaining about how tired she was and visiting web chatrooms on her computer.

She moved to London from the Midlands with her cannabis-smoking mother when young and almost immediately came to the notice of local social services — which she says gave her a lifelong dread of social workers.

After the birth of Baby P, she was diagnosed with chronic depression and turned to her new boyfriend when the baby was just three months old.

Their first home was described by social workers as cramped, untidy and smelling of urine. They were moved to a Church housing association property which they shared with the family rottweiler, German shepherd and Staffordshire bull terrier.

Police say she blames everything that has happened to her on other people.

The Boyfriend

While his identity is still officially covered by anonymity he is well known in the prison system among the criminal class who are remorseless in seeking out and taking revenge on “nonces” and those who harm children.

Since his conviction in the Baby P trial he has been held pending the second trial in the same maximum security unit as Soham killer Ian Huntley.

He is a hulking, brutish man standing over 6ft 4in tall with broad shoulders. When he was arrested he could neither read nor write, yet he knew how to send texts on his mobile phone.

He was picked on as a child and, like so many victims of bullies, started intimidating others himself. In 2000 he underwent treatment for alcoholism.

In court his girlfriend wept as she watched the girl give evidence, but his head lolled and he seemed unable or unwilling to concentrate on the many television screens that were showing her face.

His time in Frankland Prison will probably not be a happy one.
