Michelle Obama and Diana Ross
Then and now: Michelle Obama shows off her new hairstyle, similar to Diana Ross in the 1960s

Michelle Obama takes a style tip from Diana Ross

Michelle Obama ported a new sleeker look as she appeared at a gala in New York.

Drawing parallels to Diana Ross in the 1960s, the American first lady tied back her hair for Time Magazine's evening to mark its list of the world's most influential people. Both her and her husband appear on the list.

Mrs Obama was making her first official visit to New York, where she had earlier appeared on Sesame Street.

"I never thought I'd be on 'Sesame Street' with Elmo and Big Bird and I was thrilled," she said.

"I think it's probably the best thing I've done so far in the White House."

This message is for Brenda from Rock River, WY:

The Statement you made about Diana Ross's hair was not cute and it made you look like an urgly negative person, is it so hard for you to say something positive & nice? So what if Diana was wearing a wig many women wear wig's, make up, false eye lashes, fake finger neil's and other enhancements. Basic bottom line they paid for it so it there's.

I'm sure Diana liked that hairstyle, too, when she bought it..! I wonder how Michelle enjoys having her new hairdo compared to a wig! ;-)
