All-star cast to perform in Pinter tribute

Jude Law, Alan Rickman and Colin Firth will head an all-star tribute to playwright Harold Pinter next month.

The National Theatre is to host the public celebration on 7 June which will include excerpts and readings from his work.

The East End writer died in December aged 78 from liver cancer. But his legacy is to be remembered by actors including Law, who is to perform part of The Lover, and Michael Sheen, who is to appear in Betrayal.

Ian Rickson, who directed Pinter in his last appearance as an actor, is working with Lady Antonia Fraser, Pinter's widow, on the programme. He said: "There has been an enormous enthusiasm by the theatre community to celebrate his brilliance in a way that is defiant and rousing."
