A gang of teenage girls suspected of armed robberies were arrested by armed police in south London.

The four were held after the suspected robbery of a 41-year-old woman near Hyde Park. She was allegedly threatened with an imitation firearm and told: “Give us your money.”

Scotland Yard said three of the girls were teenagers and one was aged 21. A 16-year-old girl has been charged with robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Three other girls aged 17, 18 and 21 were released on police bail after the arrests on Friday. A witness who saw the arrests in Kennington said: “The police officers had holsters with pistols in them and were wearing bulletproof vests. They looked like they were taking any threat from the girls seriously.”
