Now Saatchi champions the Young Americans

Charles Saatchi is set to challenge London's dominance in visual arts with a new show of America's rising stars.

His King's Road gallery will present more than 30 artists, including 10 from Los Angeles, in an exhibition opening tomorrow.

Most have never been seen before in Britain and do not have British dealers - but Saatchi believes they will more than hold their own in a city that has set the agenda since the Young British Artists of the early Nineties.

Rebecca Wilson, the Saatchi Gallery's head of development, said: "There's been a sense that London has been the centre of the art world, but I think that with this exhibition, you can really see the ambition and the scale of the ideas being explored by artists from New York and Los Angeles."

She said the artists were exploring different themes but one common factor was the way they were drawing on the internet and digital technology to expand what they were able to do.

"It's very much about living in the 21st century where all these different realities are available to artists as a way of expressing themselves," she said.

Abstract America: New Painting and Sculpture runs until 13 September. Admission is free.
