Begged: Joanna Lumley pleaded with Gordon Brown over Gurkhas settlement issue

Lumley 'begged' PM over Gurkhas

Nicholas Cecil, Deputy Political Editor
29 May 2009

Joanna Lumley had to beg Gordon Brown to allow Gurkhas the right to settle in Britain, she revealed today.

Speaking on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, the actress said she resorted to going on "the Lumley self-pleading offensive".

Lumley, 63, said of her talks about the soldiers with the Prime Minister: "I begged him to take it into his own hands - the Government was fed scare stories."

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith announced last week that all retired Gurkhas with four years' service would be able to live in the UK.

When's the election? How much more do the British have to put with before there's rebellion in the streets? The U.K. is a total mess, and still the Scotsman clings to power -- thinking that the present sick situation will magically turn around.

Joanna Lumley would not have to beg me, I should give her anything she wanted, she is lovely!,as for George Brown and his cronies, they would not see a worthwhile cause if it smacked them in the face, three cheers for Joanne and the Gurkhas.
