A father of three died after being hit by a car which followed his taxi home after a row outside a nightclub.

Garry Frater, 32, and his friends had returned to Edgware from a night out in Watford when he was run down.

A black Ford Fiesta ploughed into him when he got out of the taxi. He died in the early hours of Saturday from multiple injuries.

Detectives arrested two men, aged 21 and 24, in west London a few hours later. Police also recovered a black Ford Fiesta. The older man was released on bail, while the younger was kept in custody.

Mr Frater's family were too upset to talk about his death today. Friend Sean Sheridan, 40, said: "It's a tragedy. I've been mates with him for years.

"I heard the men he had a row with followed him back and the cabbie even said, 'Do you know you've been followed the whole way back?'" Detective Chief Inspector Peter Lansdown said: "At this early stage it is understood that Garry and his friends returned to Edgware but were followed by those he had had an altercation with and another altercation took place following which the suspects' car was in collision with Garry."

Meanwhile, a murder inquiry was launched after a woman was found dead in a park in east London.

Michelle Samaraweera, 35, of Hainault, was discovered in a play area near a community centre in Queen's Road, Walthamstow, shortly before 6am on Saturday.

Police believe she was attacked some time after 1am, when she was reportedly last seen at a nearby Somerfield supermarket.

Two men aged 32 and 34 were being held at separate police stations after being arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder. Two other suspects arrested shortly after the body was discovered were later released on bail.
