Want to spot the next big designer to burst out of planet fashion? Then where better to look than the Central Saint Martins BA show.

With names like Stella McCartney, John Galliano and Hussein Chalayan in its alumni, the internationally acclaimed college of art and design seems like a good place to start. Last night this year's students unveiled their final collections in Bethnal Green

In one of the most outlandish graduate shows, the 40 collections did not fail to disappoint. Sticking two fingers up to the recession, the creativity reigned victorious.

Among sumo-suits and witch hats, came the beautiful body-con collection by Dean Quinn, with iridescent detailing. He was presented with an award by London Fashion Week designer Mark Fast. Luke Brooks received an award for his basket-weave cocoon dresses, presented by designer Peter Jensen.

The award for Young Designer of the Year was presented to Marie Hill for her fluorescent cocktail dresses with spider-back detailing and intricate folding technique.

Peter Bailey's camp selection of polka dot trousers and lilac fringe shorts also caught attention. Philip Preiswick's super-sized ball gowns with trains so long the models had to carry them, certainly seemed to raise the most smiles. Though perhaps we shouldn't laugh - come next year, we could all be wearing one.
