Anti-apartheid link celebrated

Ruth Bloomfield

London's links with the anti-apartheid movement are to be celebrated in a major exhibition.

Forward to Freedom at the Museum of London examines the campaigning work done in Britain against the laws that divided races in South Africa.

It marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Anti-Apartheid Movement.

Consumer boycotts of South African produce, high-profile demonstrations against touring South African sports teams, calls for an end to arms trade with South Africa and individual campaigns in support of political prisoners all feature.

Jack Lohman, director of the Museum of London, said: "This remarkable display provides a timely example of the influence that grassroots activism can achieve."

Forward to Freedom runs from 12 June to 6 September. Entry is free.
