West End business leaders, council bosses and Boris Johnson were meeting today to discuss how the Olympics can boost the area.

The consortium is keen to ensure it attracts visitors from the 2012 site in east London. The UK economy is expected to gain £2.1billion from the Games with two thirds of the money staying in the capital.

Westminster council has also called on the Government for money to clean streets.

The group, West End 2012 Task Force, brings together 150 businesses, the Ambassador Theatre Group and developers Grosvenor.

It will discuss having more traffic-free days on Oxford Street and Regent Street. Members will discuss having traffic-free days on Oxford and Regent Street, free parking and advertising at the Olympic site.

The area faces competition from Westfield White City and Westfield Stratford City, which will be open in 2010.

Isn't it a bit presumptuous of organisers to think anyone is going to want to be a part of these disastrous games? Looking at the mess they have made of Stratford spending billions of our hard earned tax I'd hope visitors would boycott the event.
