British National Party leader Nick Griffin was chased off the streets of London today after being pelted with swastika-daubed eggs.
He fled angry protesters after trying to hold a press conference outside Parliament.
Anti-fascist demonstrators confronted Mr Griffin and Andrew Brons, the newly elected MEPs for the BNP, shouting "off our streets, Nazi scum" as they chased him around a gazebo on Abingdon Green.
Protesters had marched from Westminster Tube after being alerted on Twitter and email about Mr Griffin's appearance.
Mr Griffin fled to a pub in south London. "This is a political mob, a mob for hire," he told the BBC.
"This is a mob of students, lecturers, probably a few civil service parasites.
"It's an own goal by the Labour party and David Cameron who has signed up to that mob as well. It's great for us."
Mr Griffin was hit with an egg and water was also thrown at him.

UAF dont care about black/asian people being attacked. If they did they would be shouting "nazi scum get off our streets" in Brixton or somewhere like that because nearly all attacks on blacks are done by other violent blacks. A bit of reality isn't going to stop UAF indulging themselves in their self righteous liberal fantasies.
- Rebecca, London
Actually, such an aggressive behaviour seem to me to be much more 'fascist' or even 'nazi' than BNP's political views. In democracy people are supposed to fight with their arguments, not by throwing eggs and water at someone. It only shows their political unripeness.
- Martin, Bromberg, Poland
Great job! Whereever he shows his fat ugly gob he should get plenty of eggs thrown at him, or worse!
And to all of those who preach democracy, we will talk again if and when this fool gets its own way and all your "non-ethnically-white-British" friends and acquaintancies are sent on a "voluntary" reimpatriation, or when we declare war on Ireland (read their program!), or when we are left without any political partner in the rest of the World as everyone will despise us, or when the military service will be made compulsory for everyone yes?
Then will you still be talking about democracy??? Or wish you had done something sooner to stop this fascist criminal and his chums???
- Marco, Notting Hill, London
Perhaps the new Home Secretary might have something to say about the UAF and their threat to democracy - after all the BNP MEP's have been duly elected and are entitled to address the British public when and where they want.
- Robert El-Cid., Hull, East Yorks.,
So free speach is dead, unless of course you are a loony lefty living on benefits. The real facists are the protesters. My message to them is communism is dead and buried, get it
- Trevn, Abu Dhabi
I am disgusted by the attack on a legal political party. The UAF are funded by the lib/lab/con and when fighting and rioting on the street becomes a regular event, It will be the lib/lab/con that will be held responsable.
- Charlie, SHEFFIELD ENGLAND
This is one of the most heavily policed areas of London so where were they when a mob of thugs attack a democratically elected MEP? It would seem that many so called mainstream politicians actually back the organisation this mob belong to. Ironically it is the mob who acted like fascists attacking anyone whose views they dislike, Joe Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Mao etc would be so pleased to see these political thugs on British streets attacking democratically elected politicians with it seems, covert police blessings
- Jack Napier, London England
Everybody has the right of free speech the demonstrators are no different to the BNP trying to force their opinions on others
- Lloyd, cambridge
The PM cannot achieve Law & Order outside of Parliament, appears that he has not learnt about curtailing the illegal activities of the political class.
- William, Red Hill UK
Let the BNP speak - they have been elected by our electoral system. That's democracy. Let them speak and they will condemn themselves.
Had everyone who commented on this posted - voted? I thought not.
Eggs - fabulous throw more, at more politicians - people need to get excited by politics - we are suffering form apathy and lethagy and letting the media dictate the direction of debate- Use your vote - befor you lose your Vote.

It is good to see people standing up to fascism and the racist policies of the BNP. How can a party which refuses to allow anyone other than white British people to be members be allowed to represent us politically? Any other sector in UK society would be prosecuted under equal opps. law. Hitler was an elected politican who could also articulate his hate and racism publicly, pity he was not forced off the streets sooner. Such a pity people forget so quickly what these fascists are like, Richard Brons and Griffins are long term National Socialists, former leaders of the National Front and convicted racists. It is a disgrace that people on this thread feel they should condemn those who oppose them.. Racist attacks go up when the BNP get elected, attacks that often involve much more then a few eggs.

John from Luton said that "having seen the actions of the lefties this past week, including the media I shall be switching my vote to the BNP in the future.I am afraid the UK is going downhill fast."
I don't understand how having a useless government (who are more centre-right than leftist anyway, if you are looking over their actions in the last 10 years) means you automatically go even further to the right!
Does that mean that if the weather gets warm, you automatically think Antarctica is the best place to live?! Or if your car runs out of petrol, buying a brand new car is the only option open?!!
It's pathetic over-reactions like this which have let the BNP and their "one trick pony" politics into power. Given that their one policy seems to be packing off those with immigrant backgrounds, there would not be many people left in this country as we are ALL from somewhere else (yes all of us Angles, Saxons, Normans, Vikings, Jutes, Romans, Celts, Goths, Visigoths, Huguenots etc.)!

I hope he had a hearty appetite. I love it - more politicians should be pelted with eggs - we, the people, demand a low cholesterol diet and green fried eggs.
- Jp, NY, US
He deserves it. The BNP has no place in the UK along with such groups as the taliban and al-quiada.
They are all extremist terrorists and thugs.
However, the real problem rests with the likes of Brown, Blair, Thatcher etc. They have collectively lined their own pockets and driven the UK almost to ruin. Whilst they have been in bed with big business, they have poured scorn on ordinary Brits with their stance on political correctness and more importantly, their war on the working people.
Aren't all of the above religious folks who believe in all the mumbo jumbo.?? I hope so, because they are only going in one direction when judgement day comes.

Further to my earlier comment I want to be clear that I am employable AND employed. I used argument and the ballot box to make sure that the vile BNP candidates were defeated in my area.
It is not the case that one is fascist for defending ideals. The argument being made is fascile Free speech? Let them speak of coyrse by the samw measure, let others express their dissatisfaction. Would you stand idly by if you'd asked Mr Griffin to not insult your mother while he carried on regardless?
For centuries our country has fought hard to protect our ideals. No-one is innocent in the discussion. Multi cultruralism has failed everyone, our political elite has become a bunch of career minded back stabbers without substance, forgetting they represent real people. Our media demonizes anyone who has led a normal life to the extent that only a persin with the background of a saint can survive in politics.
WHAT A TURN-OFF TO VOTERS AND REAL PEOPLE WHO WOULD MAKE GOOD POLITICIANS.
It is appaling that the apathy we have allowed to grow has let these two individuals who brim hatred to become MEPs
- Richard, London
Yes Richard if you had thrown eggs it does make you a facist as do your views i.e. those who do not agree with you should be attacked violently. I do not agree with Griffin, but I disagree even more with the views of people like Richard who would no doubt like Britain operated under a Stalinist regime. Shame!

Sir
I was for 25 years a conservative councillor i thought that the conservatives were in favour of democracy and freedom of speach within the laws of the land.
It appears that things have changed under the present leadership as they seem to have double standards a march by muslim exteemists who were brandishing banners iciting violence and death was given a police escort thru London.
However when 2 elected representatives of the British people tried to address supporters outside the house of commons they were attacked by a mob whilst the police stood by and watched. Do the police no longer have to swear to uphold the queens peace?? This even under the politically correct London force should surely be a breach of police regulations/responsibilities!! The coppers on the beat should perhaps consider this with the police federation.
We expect double standards from Labour/Liberals with anything to do with political correctness but to see the conservatives and the Mayor of London letting this asault on democracy happen without comment is disgusting
If our main parties will not defend democracy they should not be surprised if other parties including the BNP fill the vacuum.
Watching these events from here it is not good for Britain,s reputation.

Well done lads , Adolf hitler thrived on all this.Didn't do him any harm.Like Wiemar's Germany , the police were obviously told to disappear.
- Chris M, morbihan,france
There is so much anger about politically correct policies and mass immigration that some people see the fascists as a protest vote. They are trying to scare the political and Media elite into acting to curb these problems, but all they do is bury their heads further in the sand. All these anti-fascist students and professional lefties achieve is to paint the BNP as victims and allow them the moral victory. Things need to change now. If the lower classes become mobilised it won’t be eggs they will be throwing.
- Danny, London
These foolish mobs have nothing better to do.
They are the same people who attended the G20 smashing up peoples businesses and doing all they can to make trouble on our streets.
Scum the lot of you.
- Matt, sheffield
where were the police?
- Gary, London
He's lucky it was only an egg!
- N, Twickenham
If you deny someone his right to free speech through violence you aren't an anti-fascist, you're a fascist.
- Tv, Hounslow, UK
Well done to the egg trowers!. You have just managed to elevate Nick Griffin and the BNP to headline news on every media.
I suspect that Mr Griffin will be looking forward to future public appearances, and more headlines. Media exposure gurantees that the BNP will become a household name. It wont belong before he will be seen as a martyer to the cause!
It would be more intreaguing to find out why so many people voted for the BNP and what need the mainstream parties are not addressing that votes are moving away in droves.
- Sam, London
I agree with Mike.
The Labour party have themselves to blame for the election of the BNP. If our politicians hadn't kept their snouts in the trough, they may have noticed what was going on around them.
- Simon, London
So - what price democracy ?????
- Alan, Essex
I have always been taught that if you use methods like that you are losing the argument.
Violence being the repartee of the inarticulate.
- Mike Newland, London, England
Like him and his party or not, he has been elected through a legal, democratic process. He has a right to go about his legal business without being pelted with eggs. Some of the public elected him - remember none of the public voted in Brown .....
- Shirley, London
Strange democracy when elected MEPs arn't allowed to speak.Where were the police? Even Abu Hanza was allowed to speak in public!
- Anne Riddle, Leyburn England
The people who assault elected members of parliament are the real fascists!
- Martin Edwards, London
Violence by the left-wing loony nutters.
Yeah! That's the answer isn't it!
Nazism was born out of nationalist socialism and what we have seen from Mandy and Brown in the last two weeks has been nothing less than a demonstration of Elitist Marxist Bully Boy tactics.
Now Mandy and Brown have got their thugs out on the street pelting eggs at a democratically elected representative.
Shame on these low-life scum protesting thugs. shame on the UNELECTED THUG Madelson.
- Tangomike, Kensington, London
all i saw on the news were a load of students throwing eggs. i hardly think that is going to stop the BNP. they are a legal mainstream party who have won MEP seats the democratic way. these people are just an out of work mob who have got nothing better to do.
I've got an idea - why don't you get a job!!!!!!!
- Jonny, London
If only these people would mobilise against our pathetic, grovelling apology for a PM then I actually think the BNP would have missed out on the limited success they achieved. Had the Labour party had a viable leader prior to this week's elections it would have won a lot more votes and the BNP much fewer.
- St, London
He had better get used to it, there is a lot more of this to come.
- Lizzy, dagenham
Now we can see who the real fascists are and it is NOT the BNP, who have now been democratically elected.
- David Moon, Seaford, East Sussex, UK
I went out and voted. I am disgusted and embarassed that our country has failed to such an extent that we are sending facists to the one organisation that was set-up to stop facism rising again in Europe. the current "political class" really needs to get a dose of reality. replacing the labour parrty with the smarmy conservatives isn't going to help. They are just as insincere about everything. Something has to change. Revolution anyone?
If I had been there, I would have thrown eggs. Does that make me a facist? No, but I had no say in the vote that elected these ignorant, racist, bigoted morons and maybe an egg is the only way I can express my displeasure. An egg isn't exactly a lethal weapon. Writing to my MP won't have any effect...!
- Richard, London
Ah! the unemployable running round the streets of old London town trying to disrupt someone who is probably insiginificant in news terms to most hard working people in the UK. I notice that the 'lickspittle commissioners' lads were once incapable of maintaing law and order on the streets. Nothing new there then !! Yawn
- Nick Holland, glasgow
I thought it was only the fascists who broke up meetings (eg Roehm and the SA circa 1930's) . I think this action by the UAF is a mistake. It makes you no better than those you oppose. Free speech has to be free for everyone or no-one is free. My 2p.
Moreover the mainstream media (esp the BBC) seems to be mentioning the BNP non stop these days. Couldn't we just quietly ignore them? Dis-interest might be the best way of dealing with them.
- Ethan, UK
I voted for UKIP in the EU election, but having seen the actions of the lefties this past week, including the media I shall be switching my vote to the BNP in the future.I am afraid the UK is going downhill fast.
- John, Luton
Funny really, if some radical Muslim had been preaching the police would have arrested the protesters.
Unite are obviously anti-democratic. Unfortunately it doesn't matter that the turnout was so low, they have been elected and as much as I may disagree with much of what they have to say, I will defend their right to say it.
You defeat these people with reasoned arguments not rotten eggs. Far left is just as bad as far right.
- Frank, Home Counties, England.
Its thugs such as those pelting him with eggs that got him elected.
We live in a democracy and if those of the electors who stayed at home instead got out and voted there would be no BNP elected representatives
- Peter Glazier, Sao Paulo, Brazil
When people of this type are elected you will get this type of reaction, all of the MP's who acted in a corrupt manner played a part in getting these scumbags elected because many good people failed to turnout at Thursdays election because of the MP's actions.
- Mike M, Bedford England
The police should arrest the protesters.
- John, dagenham
Oh dear, this sort of attack only helps their cause. I presume the police in the area were surrounding our old friends the Tamil Tigers.
- Jack Spratt, Richmond, Surrey
A job well done by UAF! Shows the BNP for the standing 'yolk' that they are!
