Ambushed: Rachel Stevens

Rachel Stevens mugged for her engagement ring

10 Jun 2009

Pop star Rachel Stevens was robbed of jewellery by three muggers who followed her home, it has emerged.

The three men ambushed the former S Club 7 singer, who was runner-up in Strictly Come Dancing last year, as she entered her flat in Primrose Hill, north London, yesterday afternoon.

They made her hand over several items including an engagement ring, a necklace and a Rolex watch.

A Met spokesman said: "It's believed the woman returned to her flat and was followed into the premises by three males.

"The suspects are understood to have threatened her before making off with a quantity of jewellery."

Her spokeswoman Charlotte Hickson said: "Rachel did experience an intrusion and is shaken but otherwise okay."

The singer became engaged to actor Alex Bourne two years ago.

Dont worry Mike, it happens to all of us, I was never contacted again by the police after being attacked by 6 youths last year, let alone had a statement taken, one rule for them.....

This is one of the reasons I moved to Jamaica. There's way too much violent crime in London.

You can't expect to walk along the Streets in London in all your finery and get away with it. Unfortunately, in this sad world that's the way it is.

I totally disagree with Sue from Orpington. My day watch is a 4k Rolex, my night watch worth considerably more. It's nothing to do with being streetwise and nor is it a fact of life, sad or otherwise.

As for the drivel about getting tough on crime - when people where hung for pickpocketing the most popular place to pickpocket in London at the time was at hangings.

Criminals don't expect to get caught and so the punishment is irrelevant.

No one deserves to be attacked in this way . Its invasion of personal space and certainly a shocking disregard for ones personal property. period.

Sadly this incident demonstrates the darker side of celebity status and how one can be targeted by criminal opportunists. Also being publicised as a 'victim' only shows how being a celebrity does have its pitfalls and must add to the emotional fallout. Are they trated differntly , being a celebity ... I wonder ?

I understand the police were on the scene quickly and the foresnsic were also involved. Great, I was recently put in hospital by a gang of four kids using piping to hit me around the head several times yet am still waiting for the police to come round and take a statement.

Only for the rich and "famous hey"?

If you're stupid enough to wear expensive jewellery walking around London you are more likely to be mugged. Sad fact of life, even though we all know if the punishment fitted the crimes we wouldn't have such things ever happening. She's not very street wise is she? Ali Sichilongo - I agree with you. However as all the 3 main political parties are a bunch of whimps you don't think for one minute any of them will ever get tough on crime do you? Funny thing though, when a right wing party gets a seat or two everyone in the country thinks its the end of the world as we know it, people need to make up their minds exactly what they do want in this country!

No matter what position a person holds or how much or how little money they have...NO ONE deserves to be violated in such a way! She was merely trying to enter her home at a reasonable hour of the day...ALSO she earned her money by working hard, so that she could afford a Rolex, etc...unlike those that perpotrate these crimes...I sometimes wonder if the mugging and theft rates would decrease if we adopted the law of some Arab nations, whereby they chop off the hand of anyone caught stealing or mugging??...I know it sounds barbaric - but could work as a deterrent perhaps?

Sorry about Rachel but this is Nu-Lying-Labour's PC Britain. Criminals are virtually untouchable if they are a minority group and boy do they know it.
