Wheelie bin body suspect calls police from Malta

A man being sought by police after a woman's body was found dumped in a rubbish bin has contacted murder squad detectives, it emerged today.

Police had been looking for Peter Wallner, 33, who used to live at the house in Cobham, Surrey, where the remains of the woman, believed to have been in her thirties, were recovered last weekend after her foot was seen sticking out of a wheelie bin.

Wallner contacted Surrey Police to say he had been staying with his 23-year-old partner Lilia Fenech and her family in Malta.

He told detectives he plans to return to Britain as soon as he can.

Detective Chief Inspector Maria Woodall said: "He contacted officers on Tuesday and is making arrangements to voluntarily return to the UK as soon as possible."

Police named Wallner, an unemployed chef, and his girlfriend as a couple they wanted to speak to in connection with the murder.

The couple bought cross-Channel ferry tickets after hiring a camper van.
