London businesses were today warned that they face fines of up to £20,000 for unlawful advertising during the Olympics.
Firms will be banned from advertising for up to a year near the Olympic Park or at other 2012 venues in the capital.
The Olympic Delivery Authority legislation is designed to protect Games sponsors who have spent about £700million for exclusive marketing rights.

Trunk - not really "what a country" - this is standard for any olympic city - they have to agree to it in the bidding - and its got stricter sincer Atlanta so that rival firms to the sponsors don't gazump sites.
So not a problem with the UK - just the rules that the IOC/Sponsors get us to do.
This is not news, it was known back in 2005 and was in the published bid document.
