A 12-year-old Londoner who used timelapse photography to film the bustle of the South Bank has won a film competition to capture London in Motion.

Tom Cleary's three-minute short, Slow Down, beat teenagers from all over the country to win the competition organised by the British Film Institute with the Mayor of London.

His film, which shows a boy walking very slowly through the South Bank, was screened with a live accompaniment by Ronnie Scott's Jazz Band at BFI Southbank at the weekend.

The youngest finalist in the competition, Tom said: "This is incredible. I'd love to keep going with film-making."

Nicholas Hoult, the Skins star who was one of the judges, said: "The standards were fantastic. You can see Tom is going to be a great director."
