Gordon Brown's home
Prime Minister claimed £500 for painting his garden summer house

Brown defends £500 paint bill for summer house

Downing Street today defended Gordon Brown's claim of £500 for painting the garden summer house of his constituency home.

A spokesman for the Prime Minister said he used the building at his Scottish home for working.

The Telegraph claimed details of the expenditure would have been blacked out - only referring to the "paint and painting", the cost and date.

Mr Brown made the claim in April last year so it is not part of the million-plus documents published yesterday but was allegedly shaded to show it would have been partially redacted.

The No 10 spokesman said this could not be assumed as the receipts were yet to be published.

He added it was a legitimate claim for the upkeep of the house in North Queensferry, Fife, and made in good faith.

£500 could have probably bought a new one at the sales. No wonder our country's finances are in a shambles, these people cannot run their own house how can they run the entire country's finances? Why should we pay for his garden to be cleaned every month? Why should we pay for Blairs windows to be cleaned every month? Why are we paying for their cleaners? Did they have all these before they became MPs or did they suddenly think we are too big to do our own dirty work so lets get the idiots who voted us to pay for it. If the money is not enough as a MP don't dont it! Why should we pay for someone of any background to get into politics - work yourself up, then you would know what it is for Joe Blog. They want housing, etc so to encourage poor people to enter politics - well they are all now very rich aren't they? The entire lot are a disgrace and I am so eager to know what Blair shredded at our expense? He and his extravagant wife would have been swimming in our money. Disgrace, disgrace, disgrace. The British were known as Gentlemen and Ladies this lot are good to govern alongside other dictators around the world and they talk of Mugabe and others shopping whilst their folk are suffering our lot have been upto it right along and its only now that we are finding out. They upgrade themselves from Parliament to the Lords and then the EU - like the kinnocks family - SOCIALIST brings a new meaning - help myself and not the masses. KICK THEM ALL OUT.
