Tory MP targetted over expense claims

19 Jun 2009

Tory backbencher Nadine Dorries said her house was vandalised and she was sent threatening messages in the wake of the expenses scandal.

Ms Dorries, who previously warned that the pressure of the row could drive MPs to suicide, said patio furniture was smashed in the attack and her dogs were left "huddled, shivering wrecks".

"On Wednesday night I arrived back in the constituency to find the furniture on my patio broken to bits," the Mid Beds MP wrote on her blog.

"I then received a blog comment which I didn't post but which read 'nice patio Nadine, or was'."

She went on: "Thank goodness my daughter stayed at a friend's that night and when I got into the back door, both of the dogs were huddled, shivering wrecks. Fat use they are!"

Ms Dorries, who has been a vocal critic of media coverage of the expenses records, insisted she had "never claimed for furniture or gardening".

"I didn't claim for my patio furniture either. It was a present from my mum," she added.

The backbencher said she would show her unedited expenses receipts to local newspapers, but defended the decision to black out addresses and other "security-sensitive" details from material released by the Commons yesterday.

"The media know that 99.9% of the information contained in the black boxes is information every human being has a right to keep private," she insisted.

The people who vandalised Ms Dorries patio furniture are criminals, as are those who attacked the home of Fred Goodwin. They should be found and prosecuted. No amount of anger at the abuse of MP's expenses justifies this type of criminal behaviur.

"The media know that 99.9% of the information contained in the black boxes is information every human being has a right to keep private,"- Cobblers! The missing information has rendered the publication of most of these expense claims completely useless, as it makes it impossible to put them into context.

Paul, Bromley: WHAT PLANET ARE YOU LIVING ON?

"MP's have learned their lessons"?

If anyone thinks the expenses scandal is going to vanish into thin air, they are seriously deluded.

Paul, Bromley: We are being dictated to by a band of glorified crooks. Devious crooks. Hypocritical crooks.

THOSE CROOKS HAVE NOW AWARDED THEMSELVES A GBP10,000pa PAY INCREASE.

Get real.

The decision to black out addresses means that no one would know about the so called MPs flipping con.

Being a vocal critic of media coverage of the expenses records is why you were target, arrogance in politicians will lead to their down fall.

Honestly the published expenses looks like a Military of Defence report on UFOs!

Everyone needs to calm down. Okay, some claims were over the top. They are not the enemy though...

Our real enemies are laughing at us. Time we put an end to this persecution and let MPs get on with their jobs. Democracy, the envy of the world.

The MPs have learned their lessons. Time to move on.
