Big push for Norwich seat

David Cameron has ordered a full-scale campaign to clinch the Norwich North seat after the local Labour MP Ian Gibson quit.

The Tory leader was in Norwich last week, as were shadow home secretary Chris Grayling, shadow families spokeswoman Maria Miller, with shadow universities spokesman David Willetts visiting today, even before a by-election date has been set. Tory campaigners believe they could repeat the Crewe by-election win when they overturned a Labour majority of 7,000.

Dr Gibson's candidacy was rescinded following revelations that he claimed almost £80,000 in second-home expenses on a London flat which he later sold at a knock-down price to his daughter. Tory candidate Chloe Smith has been campaigning for 18 months. Labour is yet to choose a candidate.
