Richmond is home to the happiest people

Benedict Moore-Bridger

Residents in Richmond are among the happiest people in the country.

A survey by the Communities and Local Government department showed that those in the south-west London suburb were more satisfied with where they lived than anywhere in the country except the City of London.

Richmond council officials dismissed the City as "statistically insignificant" because its population is less than 10,000. Richmond, which is home to several Rolling Stones and the Attenborough brothers, was popular because of its low crime rate and green spaces, council chiefs said.

Barking and Dagenham came last.

I have lived in various parts of London and Surrey through the years, including the centre of town and West Ken, I have never lived anywhere as snobby as Richmond/Twickenham, unfortunately I am stuck in a 12 month contract with no 6 month pause on my flat, I cannot wait to get away from the place. I think it is all about balance, nobody wants to live in chav land, but on the other hand a place most people are snobs and full of self importance is even worse. Richmond has beautiful character, and the park and River views are just wonderful, the snobbery really lets the pretty little town down.

Sara Griffiths, you live in Twickenham dear. Not Richmond

- Russell, Richmond

Every time I have been to Richmond I have found the local people to be self satisfied and snobby.

And yet we have the highest council tax.....shops closing left, right and centre, schools that children can't get into...what a load of rubbish...the minority that is the rich may be happy but that could be said of any place!
