The wife of a leading City banker who has vanished with two shotguns after losing his job spoke of her fears for his safety today.

Police have issued an urgent appeal to trace wealthy financier Huibert Boumeester, 49, who has not been seen since Sunday night.

The former chief financial officer at ABN Amro is known to have been suffering from depression.

Today Anne Boumeester, who is separated from her husband, told the Standard she was concerned about what could have happened to the father of two. She said at her Clapham home: “I am very worried about him, of course. I don't know where he is or what has happened to him. It's very worrying.”

Mr Boumeester is the licensed owner of six shotguns and rifles kept at his homes in Belgravia and Perthshire. Two guns are missing.

Scotland Yard sources said detectives are set to make the manhunt international, with police in Mr Boumeester's native Netherlands likely to help.

Anyone who sees him is asked not to approach him but to call the police.

He is thought to be driving his 56-reg Range Rover.
