Family's grief after banker is found dead

The family of a Dutch banker found dead with gunshot wounds have spoken of their "great sadness".

High-flying financier Huibert Boumeester went missing a week ago, at the same time as two of his shotguns disappeared from his homes in London and Scotland.

Fears grew for the 49-year-old, a former chief financial officer at troubled banking group ABN Amro, after he missed a business appointment.

His body was found in woodland in Winkfield, Berkshire, on Sunday.

A vehicle matching the description of Mr Boumeester's car, a blue Range Rover, was found near the scene.

In a statement, Mr Boumeester's family said: "We express our thanks to all those people who have been searching for Huibert these past days. We are left with great sadness.

"The family request their privacy be respected at this difficult time."

Mr Boumeester joined ABN Amro in 1987, leaving early last year. It is not known whether he left the company voluntarily

Staff at Artemis Assets Management, where he was appointed to the board following a merger with ABN Amro, said he resigned in March this year citing "personal reasons".

This is so sad. I don't think anyone who commits suicide does it lightly regardless of who they are. He obviously severely depressed and thought, rightly or wrongly, there was no way out. I really feel for his family left behind.

Unbelieveable. This man had two houses, drove a rolls royce, earned hundreds of pounds a year and then killed himself. Millions of people have lost their jobs and are on a fraction of what he's on and have to struggle through regardless.
