Seven Britons were recovering today after being injured in a hotel fire in Turkey, the Foreign Office said.

The blaze took hold in accommodation in the popular southern resort of Marmaris last night.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said the injured were taken to hospital but no-one was thought to have been seriously hurt.

"We have received reports that seven British nationals were injured as a result of a fire at a hotel in Marmaris, Turkey," she said.

"We understand that those involved were taken to hospital for treatment and some have been discharged.

"We do not yet know the extent of the injuries of those remaining in hospital, though we have been advised that no-one is in a serious condition.

"Consular staff from the British Consulate in Marmaris have travelled to the hotel to meet with the British nationals involved to provide consular assistance."

Reports from Turkey said the blaze began when a boiler in the hotel's sauna exploded.

The seven British victims, plus a Turkish national, were thought to have been injured by broken glass as they left the building.

Some guests in the hotel suffered minor smoke inhalation, firefighters said.

An investigation has been launched into the fire.
