Brown in summit over Calais 'shanty town' migrants

Joe Murphy, Political Editor

Gordon Brown is to hold talks with the French over a huge shanty town near Calais used by migrants trying to slip into Britain.

The Prime Minister will take Immigration Minister Phil Woolas with him to a summit on Monday with President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The squalid camp is home to an estimated 1,600 migrants, many from Afghanistan. It has caused the gravest concern about pressures on the UK border since the French agreed to close the Sangatte refugee camp run by the French Red Cross seven years ago.

Instead of Gormless Brown and others of that ilk swanning over to France for the day WHY DOES NOT GORMLESS ADDRESS THE SEVERE NIGHTMARES WHICH EXIST IN THE COUNTLESS SHANTY TOWNS IN THE UK?

Oh! Joe Public counts for nothing. Gormless will welcome all these migrants with open arms - and they will all vote Labour!

What I don't understand about people claiming asylum is that unless they come by plane then their first port of entry is not the UK. That being the case we can refuse them asylum on the grounds that they didn't request asylum in the first EU country they entered, if they say they came by plane then check the flight manifests and their story will soon be backed up, if not send them to Brussels.

Well apparently this summit is about who's going to pay for 1600 one-way ferry tickets to England.

I would have thought if an asylum seeker was truly desperate, he / she (are there any women amongs them) would claim asylum in the first country of refuge that they arrived at.

Gordon the moron will give the french 100 million for their trouble and they will come to Britian to rape and pillage and draw benefits. Gordon the moron will say there is absolutely no way they will be allowed into the UK while he is handing them tickets for the boat and money for hotels, your money that it

France's problem not ours If we take them France will declare another holiday to celebrate their victory over UK. They used to have a "liberation day" for the Allies who freed them now its ....wait for it....Victory Day.

Broon the purveyor of gloom is getting involved? Oh great.

I suppose we had better prepare for an influx of 1000 foreigners. Benefits, healthcare, housing here you go help yourself.

Labours open door policy biting them in the proverbial backside.

I read in an article in the Times with one of these individuals that he freely admitted fighting with the Teleban?! Wonderful.

It irritates the French that they mostly arrive in France in the first place because it is a natural stepping stone to the generous benefits handed out by the UK . . .

I'm dreading the outcome of this one but sadly,we all know what his solution will be.
Suppose I'd better brush up on my Eastern Persian as I don't want to feel like a stranger here.
