Husband's tribute to City boss killed on bike

The family of a cyclist who was killed as she cycled to work in the City issued an emotional tribute to her today.

Catriona Patel, 39, was crushed to death after falling under the wheels of a lorry near The Oval cricket ground during Monday's rush hour.

The experienced cyclist, who lived in Clapham, had been training with her husband Anish to take part in L'Etape du Tour, in which amateur riders follow a 107-mile mountainous stage of the Tour de France. Mr Patel released a statement today paying tribute to his wife, a director at public relations firm Citigate Dewe Rogerson.

He said: "Cat was a strong cyclist who would think nothing of a 100-mile ride up and down mountains - always with a smile! All her family and friends are devastated by her death but feel proud and lucky to have known her.

"Everyone that knew Cat will remember her for her quiet confidence, warmth, love and loyalty."

She is the seventh cyclist to be killed in a collision with a lorry in less than five months - six of them women.

The driver of the lorry was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and bailed.
