THE father of a missing British backpacker has flown to Australia to help in the search for his son.

Richard Cass flew to Sydney yesterday as the hunt continued for 19-year-old Jamie Neale, from Muswell Hill, who has not been seen since he left his hostel in Katoomba, New South Wales, for a walk in the Blue Mountains last Friday. The teenager left his passport and mobile phone behind.

Jamie's brother Alan, 29, said: "My stepdad has gone out there to see what he can find out. My mum has stayed at home. We are very worried about what has happened to Jamie, but we are still hopeful that he will turn up safe."

Police rescue teams, dog handlers and firefighters are searching but the local weather has been bad.
