TfL cuts funding for speed cameras

Staff at one of Britain's biggest speed camera units could face job cuts after funding was halved.
Transport for London has cut the budget of the London Safety Camera Partnership from £5.9 million to £3 million. The unit in Westminster is responsible for 900 speed and red-light cameras.
Officials said the move will not affect processing of traffic tickets.
But the last-minute decision has sparked a row after the Met was left to pick up the shortfall.
Senior officers said they cannot put up more money and the unit will run out of cash in September, when it will be down-sized.
A TfL spokesman said: “TfL is committed to investing in and improving road safety.”

Adrian, you and your ilk fail to understand - sometimes, and in this case, the law is an ass. And that is the problem, not 'speeders'. If millions of perfectly decent people are 'breaking the law' every single day, perhaps you should ask why? It's because speed limits are arbitrarily-set numbers well below the performance levels of all modern vehicles, most roads and most drivers. 30mph is simply too slow for most thoroughfares; people are busy and need to get to places quickly. This is the modern reality. Making criminals out of commuters is not the answer at all.

and what good would CCTV do, Ross from London? Break the law, get nicked. Simple. If you don't want a speed camera to nick you - don't speed!
Sure, not all speed cameras are in the right places, but all red light cameras should nick everyone who ever risks the lives of other people by jumping lights.

Good. Get rid of all speed cameras and replace them with normal CCTV.
