Dictator Kim Jong Il's life 'is in peril from cancer'

North Korean leader Kim Jong Il has pancreatic cancer which is "threatening his life", it was claimed today.

The report emerged days after images of the dictator looking gaunt spurred speculation his health may be worsening after a stroke last year.

Kim, 67, was diagnosed with the cancer around the time of the stroke, said Seoul TV, quoting intelligence officials in South Korea and China.

Pancreatic cancer is usually found only in its final stage. South Korea's spy agency could not confirm the report.

Kim's health is the subject of constant speculation due to concerns about instability and a power struggle if he dies without naming a successor.

His third and youngest son, Kim Jong Un, is thought to have been groomed as heir, but the regime has made no announcement to the outside world.

Kim was last week at a memorial for his late father, North Korea's founder Kim Il Sung - only his second state appearance since the reported stroke.

TV footage showed him thinner and with less hair. He also limped and his mouth looked lop-sided in what were believed to be the effects of a stroke.

The images sparked speculation he may have other health problems. South Korea's spy agency has long suspected Kim has diabetes and heart disease.

Would someone please tell me the difference between these 'democratic' communist 'leaders for life' who hand the reins of power to their own off-spring when they die - and the Kings and nobles of old? I thought they hated the oppression of the 'nobility', hence their 'communist ideals'.

I won't wish sufferring on this man, any more than I would any other - pancreatic cancer is anything but a pleasant way to die no matter what your resources - even criminals subject to the death penalty are entitled to a humane death.

We're all the same when the grim reaper comes knocking, though, aren't we!.
