Some of the capital's most famous residents have revealed their favourite places for a new Google guide of "hidden London".

The site, which launches today, contains everything from Ken Livingstone's favourite tapas restaurant to Dame Kelly Holmes's best-loved market.

The search giant has drawn upon the opinions of famous people from around the world and has created a series of city guides using the information.

Users can zoom in on the recommendations, getting directions and even see photographs of the areas.

"We wanted to find out where some of the most interesting Londoners went, and what their favourite places in the capital are," said Amit Sood from Google.

"We asked a whole range of people, Dame Kelly and Mr Livingstone to Iwona Blazwick, the director of the Whitechapel Gallery, and Martha Lane-Fox, founder of the Lucky Voice karaoke chain."

The locations also reveal the best markets for bargains and places to eat in the capital.

Comedian Alexei Sayle names his favourite eating places while Madness singer Suggs chooses a pub - and the people who supply him with hats.

The site features around 200 local experts and trend-setters in cities including New York and Barcelona. Each celebrity has designed a "pin" which is put on the map at their chosen places.

All the information is on the map at http://m.google.co.uk/fav
