Manchester United today cancelled their trip to Indonesia after the hotel they were due to stay in was targeted in a series of terror attacks that left 12 dead.

The team were booked into the Ritz-Carlton in Jakarta but called off the visit after a bomb ripped through the luxury hotel and second hit neighbouring hotel The Marriot in the early hours of this morning.

At least 12 people, including foreigners were killed and more than 48 were injured.

Sir Alex Ferguson's team, who were going to Jakarta tomorrow for the first leg of their Far East tour, were due to stay at the hotel for four nights.

After seeking advice the Foreign Office, Man United confirmed they had cancelled the tour.

“Following the explosions in Jakarta - one of which was at the hotel the team were due to stay in - and based on advice received, the directors have informed the Indonesian FA that the club cannot fulfil the fixture in Jakarta on the 2009 Asia tour,” said a club statement.

The team was to due to play an Indonesia Super League XI on Monday.
