Dick Murray

More than 12,000 postal workers across London and other parts of the country today went on a 24-hour strike over pay and job cuts.

A rally will take place this afternoon in Parliament Square with disruption to traffic expected. Post offices are not affected.

London will be worst hit, with 10,000 workers involved in the strike ordered out by the Communication Workers Union.

CWU deputy general secretary Dave Ward accused the Royal Mail of freezing pay and hitting services.
