Hot-air balloonist captures stunning view of Himalayas

Ben Bailey
21.07.09

This spectacular image of the Himalayas is believed to be the highest panoramic photograph taken by hand from a hot-air balloon.

The picture was captured by adventure film-maker Leo Dickinson, below, from in the stratosphere at an altitude of 36,000 feet. It has been described by mountaineer Reinhold Messner as the
“best snap on earth”.

With Nepal on the left and Tibet on the right, the skyline shows nine of the world's highest peaks including Everest.
