A police dog handler who left two German Shepherds to die in a hot car is facing prosecution, it emerged today.
The dogs were left in the officer's car which reached 29.3C during the heatwave.
By the time he returned to his vehicle at Nottinghamshire Police's headquarters on 30 June the animals had died. The officer has been suspended.
An RSPCA spokesman said legal proceedings will be brought against the officer for allegedly causing unnecessary suffering to the dogs.
