Workers hit the jackspot

A group of workers at recession-hit steel giant Corus who have won a £2.2 million Lottery jackpot will be unveiled today.

The eight people, including six members of staff from the firm's Scunthorpe plant in north Lincolnshire, scooped £275,000 each after their numbers came up in a National Lottery draw earlier this month.

It comes amid a tough time for staff at the firm, which has announced thousands of job losses across the UK following a slump in demand for steel products.

The syndicate members include Tony Dugard, 45, from Grimsby, who works as a fire risk assessor at the Scunthorpe site, and his partner, Julie Clark.

Another member of the group said none of the winners had any plans to leave Corus as they all enjoyed their jobs.

Earlier this month, Corus announced that 366 production posts were at risk at the Scunthorpe plant under plans to improve its competitiveness.

The news came on top of 500 job losses at the site as part of 2,000 cuts announced last month.

The firm, owned by Indian giant Tata, also announced plans to cut 2,500 jobs earlier this year.

I think anyone who doesn't jack their job in when they win the lottery should have the money taken away again. What's the point of wining millions if you're just going to go out and do your 9 to 5 every day?
