Thames Valley Police has admitted breaching health and safety legislation after a civilian employee was shot and badly injured during a firearms awareness session.

Keith Tilbury was shot by firearms officer Pc David Micklethwaite in 2007. The bullet from the magnum .44 revolver passed through Mr Tilbury's liver and the chair he was sitting on.

At Southwark crown court yesterday Thames Valley Police admitted it was in the wrong and will be sentenced next month.

Pc Micklethwaite denied the charge and will be sent for trial.

Not really sure why a civilian employee was receiving firearms awareness training?

Philip, castres france - he would have had to qualify in weapons handling. He's also a qualified human being - mistakes happen. Anyone who has handled weapons knows the safety precautions required, and the potential consequences of mistakes - if the man is denying the charge, it is reasonable to assume, pending further information, that he must have a reason to believe that he would not be found to be culpable. How about waiting for the result before putting the man in front of a firing squad.
