Sacked man killed café boss

Paul Cheston, Courts Correspondent

A kitchen porter is facing years behind bars today for battering his boss to death after she sacked him.

Slawomir Zakrzewski, 23, attacked 53-year-old Gloria Burgos as she prepared sandwich fillings in the café she had run for 15 years.

The mother-of-three was left with more than 40 injuries including a collapsed lung, broken collarbone and a shattered cheekbone. The killer stamped on his victim so hard he left a footprint on her face.

Zakrzewski told the Old Bailey he had gone to the Goode Food café in Southwark in September last year to get a reference and a £200 loan.

He admitted beating up Mrs Burgos and taking her handbag.

Zakrzewski, of Norwood, denied murder and robbery and was convicted of manslaughter. He was remanded in custody to be sentenced later.

i am a lawyer and i dont understand these 'Manslaughter' convictions' If you batter someone with pre-intent so much that they die that is murder. pre intent? hitting someone more than enough to defend yourself. there was a case of a man who beat to death a 12 year old boy who was working a Saturday job collecting trollies in the Supermarket car park. motive - none! he was convicted of Manslaughter, presumably on the grounds that he couldn't have forseen that his wholly unwarrantied and vicious attack on this boy could have led to his death! the whole system is in chaos. gm

Beautiful, beautiful Gloria did not deserve to be MURDERED!!! She was a tiny caring and lovely lady who was viciously attacked for NO REASON!!! I am so angry and upset with this it beggars belief. Everyone in the local area is absolutely disgusted with the whole of the justice system.

In the UK murder requires intent to kill ... otherwise it's manslaughter. It shouldn't matter, because the maximum penalty for manslaughter is the same as for murder. So, wait for the sentencing before criticising it.

(If you watch USA crime shows, over there the serious end of the UK manslaughter crime is called Murder 2).

The 'Justice System' in this country is truly pathetic if only a manslaughter charge is brought for this offence. Probably won't get that long in prison either. Rob a bank or fraud... that will give a long sentence. Money has always been cherished more than human life in the UK.

'Manslaughter'???? How can this have been anything other than murder. No sentence will be enough for this man
