Joanna Lumley hands over a gift to Nepalese prime minister Madhav Kumar

Joanna Lumley’s Nepal visit

27 Jul 2009

Actress Joanna Lumley hands over a gift to Nepalese prime minister Madhav Kumar during a visit to Kathmandu.

Lumley, 63, is on her first visit to Nepal after her successful campaign to let the country's Gurkhas settle in Britain.

Her high-profile protest forced Gordon Brown into a U-turn over his initial refusal to allow soldiers and their families the right to live here. Lumley is also due to be honoured by the Gurkha regiment while she is in the country.

Dear Ms Joanna,

You did appreciable effort in favour of Gurkhas regiment. Your effort will be appreciated by the all Grkhas as well as whole Nepalese. We Nepalese expect same level of effort from you in future. Thank you very mch.

What's the betting Madhav Kumar is deposed before Ms Lumley has left Nepal? Indeed, she may even become prime minister. Go Patsy, go.
