Coca-Cola hoping fizzy milk drink is a hit with consumers
Mark Prigg, Science and Technology Editor28 Jul 2009
Coca-Cola has introduced a new fizzy milk drink.
The £1.50 carbonated drink is called Vio and is made from skimmed milk mixed with sparkling water, flavoured with fruit and sweetened with cane sugar.
The drinks, available in citrus burst, peach mango, tropical colada and very berry flavours, have gone on sale in New York.
"The launch of Vio in the US is an exciting development for consumers there," said a spokesman for Coca-Cola GB. "However we currently have no plans to launch Vio in any country in Europe."
The company says Vio has "a delicious, unique and smooth flavour", with no artificial flavours, preservatives or sweeteners.
Opinions on BevNET, a website that reviews non-alcoholic drinks, say the peach mango delivers something "reminiscent of lassi", but is "almost overwhelming" in its sweetness. The citrus burst "is somewhat of a letdown".
David Jago, of consumer research firm Mintel, said: "I suspect it is a bit of a novelty. British people will expect a milk drink to be chilled and will be suspicious if they see it on the shelves."

more junk food with loads of sugar and an epidemic of obesity. Please lets have food in its natural state.
What gets me is when i am shopping and i see it is only the fat and obese who buy chocolates, crisps and chips and burgers. They look so disgusting and fat people wearing mini skirts look so disgusting. please cover your legs up and dont wear tight jeans as you all look so revolting. Rather go for lose fitting clothes so we dont have to see all the fat bulging out.

I have been doing this for years.
Adding fizz water to milk..adding milk to coke..etc..whichever my taste buds conducted
It is SO iresponsible of Cola companies to add SUGAR
Sugar is now sensibly NEIN VERBATIM.

You can buy a pint of milk for under 70p. Much healthier. Bring back free milk to schools and the milk monitor.

"No artificial flavours, preservatives or sweeteners?" Sugar is THE most destructive component of the contemporary diet, responsible for diabetes in millions of young people here and the US (along with other factors, such as lack of activity), plus, not everyone can consume cows milk. This is big industry shoving poor quality 'foodstuffs' into the young who will become addicted to the sweet taste and reject more healthy alternatives. Don't these companies have ANY shame?

It sounds disgusting! Carbonated water, lactose, fructose, and glucose. Milky sugary fizzy water - YUK!!! Can Coca-Cola please not start introducing milk into their products? I'm vegan and I find milk production highly offensive and destructive and the single most tortuous aspect of farming - repeatedly impregnating female cows, removing their babies at birth, giving them steroids and hormones to produce FOUR TIMES the normal amount of milk for longer than usual over and over again until the cow is unfit to live any longer. That is absolutely disgusting - if people knew how milk is produced many would stop using it. And the drink doesn't sound much better. MILK IS FOR BABY CALVES.

Nice to see Coca Cola have found another way of selling us Brits Thames water at a huge profit.Do they think so little of us that they think we would forget they tried to sell us bottled water at huge profits a year ago.Would be nice to hear from Coca Cola how they think they can justify 1,50 for this drink made up mainly of Thames water.Thank you Evening Standard for updating us.
