Three people were treated by ambulance staff during a major fire at a primary school in east London.

About 100 firefighters worked for nearly 10 hours to put out the blaze which gutted the Thomas Fairchild school in Hoxton, left.

The London Fire Brigade said 90 per cent of the three-storey building was destroyed by the flames.

Eleven people were evacuated from nearby buildings, with two men and a woman treated for smoke inhalation. An investigation into the cause of the fire, which began at 1.50pm yesterday, will take place in due course.
