Russian football fans told to boycott Britain amid swine flu fears

Russian football fans are being told to boycott Britain ahead of next month's World Cup qualifier for fears of contracting swine flu.

The country's top health official said that Britain was the source of most of Russia's cases of the virus and that it was “absolutely inappropriate” to travel there.

Gennadi Onishchenko suggested it was irresponsible of organisers in Britain not to cancel major events, such as the match between Russia and Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on 9 September, to contain the pandemic.

Mr Onishchenko has already demanded that all school trips to this country should be aborted.
