School lessons to tackle domestic violence

Emma Rowley
5 Aug 2009

Schoolchildren could be taught about wife-beating, it was revealed today.

Ministers are considering adding lessons on domestic violence in relationships to the National Curriculum.

It is likely to come under personal, social and health education, which is taught to children as young as five.

Teachers will also be given new guidance on tackling "gender bullying".

The proposals are part of a government strategy aimed at tackling violence against women and girls to be launched this year.

A review of violent crime published by the Home Office today states: "Educating children about healthy non-violent relationships is a key route towards tackling and ending violence and abuse against women and girls.

"We intend... that these subject areas should become part of the statutory national curriculum."

But campaigners accused the Government of "trying to fix society with schools".

Margaret Morrissey, of Parents Outloud, said: "I do not really want my youngster to be indoctrinated with these things."

Child line has worked wonders in the area of this dilemma well done Ester and Co. Schools seems a logical place until you think about it, children need to be able to ring a number free of judgement or fear.

P Staker, YOUR comment is ignorant. The sheer number of women and children murdered by men every year clearly shows that men commit a far higher level of extreme violence against women and children. Not to mention gang fighting, football hooliganism, pub fights, race hate murders, sex crimes, rapes and assaults. Maybe it's genetic, maybe it's cultural, maybe it's down to our society but it is FACT. When hundreds of thousands of men and children get raped or murdered by WOMEN every year then the schools will no doubt begin teaching that on the curriculum. As a victim of extreme violence perpetrated against me I find your argument weak, unjustified, stupid, and extremely offensive.

More man hating sexist left wing rubish, and since when were men only capable of violence against their partners?

Women can be just as bad if not worse.

Once again the Government wants to take over the raising of our children. If they include this in the curriculum what will have to go, reading, maths? Surely if parents teach their children to not be violent and especially for boys to never hit girls it would be better. Bullying is normally only cured when the bully get's a taste of their own medicine, but that's far too un-PC for this bunch of spineless, morally-vacant idiots.

Yes, lets indoctrinate children that only men can be domestic abusers. Nearly half of spousal abuse is inflicted by women, but as it isn't 'wife beating', it isn't taken seriously. Indeed, some women think that there is nothing wrong with attacking and assaulting men because there is no moral disdain for it by the general population, the police or the media. Indeed, if a man reports abuse by his partner, the police will most likely arrest him rather than her because political correctness demands that women can only ever be victims of society and men can only ever be perpatrators of violence.

Modern males are perfectly aware of domestic violence issues, and men are brought up never to hit a woman. However, the women are not taught that violence is unacceptable, and some see nothing wrong with assaulting their partners in the knowledge that nobody will take it seriously. Witness the rise of laddette culture. Women can be just as unpleasant and dangerous as men. And frequently are.
