Two men have been arrested over the murder of a doctor who died following an attack near Buckingham Palace.

Nadim Gulamhuseinwala was punched to the ground and kicked repeatedly in the head in Green Park in the early hours of Saturday 25 July.

The 32-year-old suffered severe head injuries and died yesterday afternoon at a central London hospital.

Two men launched the unprovoked attack in Queen's Walk, two minutes walk from the Palace, in what police believe was a mugging.

Mr Gulamhuseinwala was discovered by a passer-by and taken by ambulance to a south London hospital.

Last night at the family home in Ealing, his brother Imran, a management consultant, said their parents were too upset to talk.

Mr Gulamhuseinwala, who was medically-trained but worked as a management consultant, was walking home after a night out with friends at 4am when the attack happened. Officers have been hunting two men seen running from the scene and yesterday arrested two men, both aged 19, on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery.

The men were taken from their homes in Bromley to a police station to be questioned. Following Mr Gulamhuseinwala's death they were re-arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.

A third man, also 19, was held at an address in Portsmouth. He was questioned and released but no further action will be taken against him.

Mr Gulamhuseinwala is believed to have worked as an NHS plastic surgeon at Guy's and St Thomas' hospital. As a doctor he also published numerous research articles in a host of medical journals.

He went on to join management consultants McKinsey & Company.

A post-mortem will take place this afternoon.

Anyone with any information should call police on 020 8785 8244 or Crimestoppers.
