A Met policeman was arrested today on suspicion of raping a woman at his work.

Detectives held the man after the woman claimed she was sexually assaulted at a police station in north London last night.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that Westminster detectives are investigating an allegation of serious sexual assault.

"The incident is alleged to have taken place on Wednesday 5 August. One man has been arrested and is currently being interviewed at a central London police station."

Westminster's specialist Sapphire sexual assault unit will lead the inquiry.

The arrest follows a campaign for better support for victims of rape in London and the announcement of a new rape crisis centre to be opened in Ealing.
