'Full service' as rail strike called off
Dick Murray14 Aug 2009
National Express East Anglia promised a full evening service for commuters on their way home this evening.
Passengers have suffered disruption following five days of strikes during the last three weeks.
Union bosses called off the strike - affecting all the NXEA services to and from Liverpool Street Station - from midnight last night after a new pay deal was agreed.
But with trains and crews out of place there was further disruption this morning.
An NXEA spokeswoman said: "We will return to a full service for this evening's journeys home."
The disruption hit 150,000 daily rail users caught up in the dispute over pay and conditions.
NXEA cancelled 24 morning peak trains, with some others operating a reduced service.
The three main rail unions - Aslef, the RMT and TSSA - secured a "no strings" pay increase of up to four per cent over two years.

TheRailway Unions are living in a dream world. Whilst a large proportion of workers in the private sector are losing their jobs or accepting pay decreases to keep their jobs, the rail unions are getting unrealistic pay increases. How long can it go on for?

Not to worry, they'll be back. Christmas is a handy time to plead poverty for many unions.

The strike was called off at 16.00 yesterday. How NXEA couldn't get rolling stock in place for this morning is beyond explanation.
