Richard and Judy's daughter charged with drink driving after car crash

The daughter of chat show hosts Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan has been charged with drink driving after her car was found overturned in north London.

Chloe Madeley, 22, was held by police who were called to a road traffic accident in Barnet. They found a car overturned but the driver had left the scene.

Checks with the police national computer revealed Miss Madeley to be the owner of the car.

She is believed to have been arrested at her parents' home, where she still lives, nearby. She was breathalysed and taken to a police station before being charged.

Miss Madeley last worked as a showbusiness reporter on her parents' chat show, New Position.

Richard and Judy ended a 21-year career on TV last month when they hosted their final show on the satellite channel Watch.

Miss Madeley has ambitions to follow in their footsteps and become a TV presenter.

Earlier this year she hit the headlines after being pictured apparently smoking cannabis at a party. The picture showed her sitting between a man's legs and inhaling from a bong, a pipe used to smoke the drug.

Only two months after the picture was said to have been taken at a party in Norfolk in August last year her father said his children were “incredibly anti-drugs.” Miss Madeley later issued an apology saying she had been “really stupid”.

She dropped out of Leeds University after one term to pursue a TV career and started as a runner on The Alan Titchmarsh Show before joining her parents' show.

She has also presented Big Brother's Big Mouth with brother Jack, 23, and posed in lingerie for men's magazine FHM.

In a more recent interview she declared: “I look at people like Peaches Geldof and Kimberly Stewart who have made a career and a fortune for themselves in a short space of time. It makes me think that maybe I should become more of a party girl.”

She also spoke about how a lot of her friends smoked cannabis. She said: “I chill with them but I'd never let myself lose control.”

Today Scotland Yard said: “Chloe Madeley, 22, of Barnet, appears on bail at Hendon magistrates' court on 2 September charged with drink driving.”
