Eternally yours: the crypt above Monroe has hit $4.5 million

Widow auctions off burial site above Marilyn Monroe

The burial plot above Marilyn Monroe's is being auctioned off by a widow in America.

"Spend eternity above Marilyn", says the ad placed on eBay by Elsie Poncher, of Beverly Hills, whose late husband's remains occupy the crypt above the star, who died in 1962. Bidding opened at $500,000, and has passed $4.5million.

Mrs Poncher plans to move her husband Richard's remains from Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles and hoped to make enough to pay off a $1.6million mortgage. "I can't be more honest than that," she said.

Mr Poncher, a businessman who died 23 years ago aged 81, is placed face down above the actress, in keeping with his dying wish.
