Strike may hit results of A-levels face

A-level students could face delays in receiving their results or offers of university places because of a post strike.

Members of the Communication Workers' Union will walk out tomorrow in the latest of a series of stoppages over jobs, pay and services.

The action by the postal workers, including more than 1,000 lorry drivers, will hit deliveries on Thursday, when hundreds of thousands of teenagers will be expecting their A-level results.

Many students go to their school to pick up their results, but others still wait for the post. Students also expect to receive offers of university places from Thursday.

Strikes hit Coventry, Leamington Spa, Nottingham, Stoke-on-Trent and London yesterday and will spread to Birmingham, Essex, Peterborough, Bristol and Leeds tomorrow, Peterborough again on Thursday and Friday, and Boston and Carrickfergus on Saturday.

The drivers taking action tomorrow deliver mail across the UK.

Business Secretary Lord Mandelson today ruled out intervening in the dispute.
