Mother and son in court over Kenny Dalglish grenade

21 Aug 2009

A mother and son will appear in court today over the discovery of a hand grenade outside the home of football hero Kenny Dalglish.

The live grenade was found on the garden wall of the former Liverpool manager's house in Southport, Merseyside, on July 27.

Nobody was injured in the incident at the house in Selworthy Road, but the army's bomb disposal team was called to safely remove the device.

Mark Johnston, 21, of Maqueen Street, Old Swan, Liverpool, is charged with conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit criminal damage with the intent to endanger life.

His mother Carol Johnston, 50, also of Maqueen Street, Old Swan, is charged with assisting an offender.

Both will appear before South Sefton magistrates in Bootle, Merseyside.

Two men were earlier charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Simon Ignacio, 28, of Lee Park Avenue, Belle Vale, Liverpool, and Carl Higgins, 29, of Helston Green, Huyton-with-Roby, Merseyside, will appear at Liverpool Crown Court on September 2.
