Gwyneth Paltrow and husband Chris Martin are building a two-storey extension to their north London home which will help make their property into a 33-room 'superhouse'.

Builders have begun work on transforming the house, which Martin bought from Kate Winslet in 2004.

They also bought the other half of the semi-detached home in 2007, and recently gained permission for the two-storey extension and a radical remodelling of the interior.Paltrow, 36, and Martin, 32, intend to have a gym, changing room, three bedrooms and a bathroom in the extension, while the existing properties will be knocked together to create 27 rooms.

There will be eight rooms on the lower ground floor, six on the upper ground, five on the first floor and eight on the second floor.

Just preparing for when the World runs out of oil, population will decrease to less than a billion. Plenty of space all round without the buiders to do the work, sounds like common sense to me.

33 ROOMS IS OBSCENE.
ONE CAN UNDERSTAND A FEW GUEST SUITES BUT THIS IS HARDLY A GREAT GREEN ECONOMY EXAMPLE.
WHERE ARE THEIR BRAINS ?

First the St. Paul's development, then this. Please, please leave London alone and preserve its architectural heritage.

good luck gwynneth you worked hard for it. Ignore the gripers who are do nothings usually

B&B anyone? Vacancies.

Sour Grapes?? I am afraid not....to destroy the architecture of a pleasant residential area, the sheer dumbness of a 33 room house......I actually dont care what they spend money on, 7 pairs of killer heels, green cars etc etc et alia....this is just so vulgar.

I thought the trend now in the wake of the financial crisis was to be more content with your lot and not live so ostentiously. Make do with what you've got and be happy and closer to your family. Wouldn't want to be alone in that big house when her husband is away touring.

- Janet, London

you couldnt make it up..one day, certain celebs will not have an opinion on issues which they know they cant follow..whoa..there's me in dream land..

- Jonnie Of Brixton, brixton,london,england

Fair enough, but I hope the noise isn't too bad for the neighbours whilst Gwyneth and Chris are away in their other homes. I imagine the neighbours don't have this option

- Stephen C, London

33 rooms! Good Lord deliver us! Most people only use the kitchen, a bedroom or two, and the bathroom, however many rooms they have.

Presumably Mr & Mrs Martin are planning to open an hotel.

- Toby Webster, Ongar, England

They have both worked hard and earned their money. Why should they not spend it in the way that they want to? Good on them and good luck.

- Nice!, London, UK

Such pathetic hypocrisy. I wonder what the carbon foot print is to run three homes on both sides of the Atlantic. But you get the same from all these "Save the World" Rock Stars who always preach self indulgent sound bites at their concerts, yet lack the honesty or integrity to practice what they preach.

- Lawrence, Midlands

Sour grapes Roger?

- Jc, London

Not exactly a green move from someone who drives a Prius.

- Graham, Reading, England

Large family planned then?!

- Frank, Home Counties, England.

This is what happens when you have too much money and no Design sense at all....so sad the depths of idiocy celebs will sink to.

- Roger Lawley, Beziers France

How many eggs is she laying?
