Bernard Madoff 'dying of cancer' in jail

Ed Harris
24.08.09

Bernard Madoff, the US banker convicted of a $65 billion fraud, has told fellow prison inmates he is dying of cancer.

Madoff, 71, who since June has been serving a 150-year sentence in North Carolina, says he will die soon, the New York Post reported.

Inmates said Madoff was taking “20 pills a day” and has joined “Native American religious purification ceremonies” that use heated rocks and a ceremonial pipe.

What are we waiting for - lets let him out! In fact, why don't we use tax payers money to have a little 'post-release' party for him, the Lockerbie Bomber and Ronnie Biggs, and whilst we are at it, let Ian Huntley go free so he doesn't feel like his human rights have been affected!!!

The world is officially going mad.

Sadly though, maybe this will teach us all a lesson - that our individual votes DO count and we MUST ensure we lodge our votes to ensure that people like the current MPs don't get re-elected!

In that case he must be released IMMEDIATLY!!

I bet he wishes he was in Scotland right now!

..I suppose there will be Scottish ministers spouting for his 'early release'...

Money talks it don't sing and dance and it can't walk?.
Madoff made off with millions of dollars, and destroyed people's savings, he will die in prison in America .... fact?, with no compassion due to illness.
On the other hand Scotland let free a man who was part of a gang who murdered people in flight on a airliner over Scotland and those on the ground due to compassion.
The world has gone nuts,........... fact.

Perhaps if he were to ask to be transferred to the UK to serve out his sentence (I'm sure he defrauded some UK citizens along with apparently every other nationality after all) he could be freed within months - to make a miraculous recovery within days.

- Rogan, Irving

When will he be released on compassionate grounds? Do not hold your breath though America does have a surprisingly good record on such things but this guy is too much in the Public eye.

- Aylyn, Spain

First it was Ronnie Biggs, then the Lockerbie bomber, and now Bernard Madoff with terminal illnesses. How stupid do they think we are. If Madoff or should that be "Made off" (with all investors life savings) has a terminal illness what does he want sympathy? What about some sympathy for all those whose money he stole and squandered on a life of extravagance. And although I'm not wishing anyones life end prematurely how come they're all still alive! Its time that we stop having compassion for criminals who have no conscience or care for anything other than their own sorry asses.

Perhaps he'll ask to transfer to Scotland to serve the rest of his sentence!
